My son and I are nature and/or sports oriented individuals. We spend most of our time outdoors as possible weather permitting. When we do watch television, it is typically a DVD we signed out of the Library or one from my DVD collection. On this past weekend we had a long weekend of cold rain so we resorted to watching actual television in the evening. Flipping through the channels, the FOX show COPS caught our attention. It was a documentary of a car chase and the interaction of the perpetrator car thief after the arrest.
The perpetrator was smiling, laughing, and not remorseful for his actions. The perpetrator actually stated to the policeman that he looked forward to going back to prison. Prison life was easier and he could attend college classes. Just then my seven year old son asked, “Daddy why is that man happy, why is he not scared of jail?” It kind of stunned me that it was glaring obvious to a seven year old that the documented criminals on the television were not scared of or respected law enforcement. Not even scared of spending time in prison. I could not respond but to say “Well Bryce, there is a problem in this country where bad people are treated better then the good people”. My son Bryce agreed. When he asked why, it was one of those times where I had to tell my son that I do not know the answer why.
Thoughts of my Army enlistment began to go through my mind. I compared my military experiences versus the lifestyles of convicted prisoners.
· GP Medium tents.
· Daily showers, not on military exercises.
· Very limited or no sleep on military exercises.
· 1970’s vintage food C-rations (1983).
· MRE’s food rations (1984-1987).
· I don’t remember being allowed to take college classes while on military maneuvers.
· Parade duty. Trash cleanup. Guard duty of aircraft.
· Standing next to a deuce and a half in 40- F temperature in the motor pool to stay warm. (Germany)
· NBC (Nuclear Biological Combat) alerts 24/7.
· Veterinarian quality health care.
· Civil rights dictated by the UCMJ.
In today’s war against Islamic expansion on the Western Civilization, American soldiers now experience actual combat, potential loss of limb or life, and extreme environmental conditions.
It really made me mad to even think that our convicted criminals who violate local/state/federal laws and cause harm/kill others are treated better than our noble citizens who will defend America’s security. One might think common sense would dictate that convicted criminals might experience their contained life at a lesser quality of life but that is not true. Convicted criminals are treated with far better amenities. That is really going to teach these criminals a lesson about committing crime.
In any society not matter what race, creed, or religion, mankind is always in the pursuit of conditions better than what they have whether it is physical and/or spiritual. Society typically expects citizens within the society to live in a framework of some kind of obligations or laws to maintain the civility. This enhances the ability/chances of achievement to be obtained and achieve prosperity. In simple terms, a good clean life should bring about greater rewards than those who don’t. Why America grants a better life to the criminal class than to the law abiding class is beyond me.
Why can’t the criminal class pick fruits and vegetables and replace the illegal aliens?
Why can’t the criminal class be used to donate their body parts? Blood donations?
Why can’t the criminal class be used for military service in combat arms specialties?
I served the United States Military (Army) with pride hoping I had done my duty to protect this Republic and to also better myself. I always hoped that my son would also serve his country with military service. In this day in age when noble moral citizens are being treated more harshly then the criminal element, I will strongly discourage my son against any kind of military service. Why should he be exposed to harm defending the security and rights of the criminal class?
