In 1972, the Democratic primaries nominated George McGovern who ran away with the state primaries with candidate ideas very closely resembling Barack Hussein Obama’s (Notice that I used Barack’s middle name). George McGovern won only 1 state in the general presidential election against a paranoid nutcase Republican named Richard Nixon.
The landside election loss results caused the Democratic National Committee in 1982 to create a commission chaired by former North Carolina Governor James Hunt to create 'Superdelegates'. It was the job of the Superdelegate to overturn primary election results if they think the presidential general election might go down the drain. At the 2008 Democratic National Convention, the superdelegates will make up approximately one-fifth of the total number of delegates.

There is absolutely no guarantee that the Democratic state primaries results will reflect the wishes of the Democrat voter because of the Superdelegates. The Superdelegate’s choice can also change on a whim based on internal political circles far removed from the voter’s control.

This is a stark contrast from the Republican primaries. The delegates earned from each state primary stays with the presidential candidate through out the entire presidential primary. As much as I have to hold my nose to vote Republican, at least Republican National Committee has enough faith in the voters to respect their voter’s wishes and the delegates also adhere to the state primary results.
So why do the Democratic National Committee even go through the motion of presidential primaries if the Superdelegates are going to decide for the Democrat voter? Where are all those Democrat party supporters who typically chant ‘One Man One Vote’ or ‘Vote or Die’ for the news media? Aren’t they concerned that the political party who is supposed to care more for the individual voter doesn’t trust their voting judgment? I guess it is just a nice way of making the Democrat voters to feel good about themselves on the taxpayer’s expense.
As a side note, I am actually enjoying watching Hillary Clinton and Barack Hussein Obama spar in the Democrat primaries. Hillary Clinton and the rest of the Democrats have gone out of their way to convey 'Sacred Cow' status to specific races of people to show how much they care for them in exchange for vote buying purposes. Now they have put themselves in a real bind because they cannot compete against a ‘Minority’ in their own political ranks without becoming considered cruel or racist. I suppose the racist Liberals never realized that these individuals would be able to compete against them. Their Liberal racist arrogance was short-term. This might be a good catalyst for the Liberals to actually endorse real equal rights since their own race policies have come back to haunt them.
